COVID Challenge # 4 - Labor Day to Columbus Day

Post by JeremyC »

This is the one all you non-climbers have been waiting for, the Oak Hill downhill TT. Start at the Pinnacle intersection, flat and maybe slightly uphill for almost a mile, then gradually downhill for 2 miles. Winner should be able to do over 30pmh. Prizes will be awarded. Here's the segment:

https://www.strava.com/segments/25586111?filter=overall

No TT bikes/bars, and no drafting. Anything else is good to go. I'll make an initial run tomorrow to set the pace.

Solid effort by Boos today. What about everyone else? I’m slow now so should be an easy win. Did I mention the prizes?

We both do. I guess you just need to tow me around the last green valley some more.

I will give it a shot sometime soon, although downhill is not exactly my strength...

It was fun, ill try it again.
You really need a 53 on that downhill. I had my compact 50 on there and was spinning out.

I was thinking that could be a factor. Need a SRAM 55/10

Although my attempt was not great, 53/11 is more than enough. 52/11 is probably fine. The hill is not steep enough for long enough to max out 53/11.

At 90 rpm you will see a 2 mph difference between 50/11 and 53/11.

There was one spot where I was spinning 53x11 at 95 RPM so maybe could have made use of some higher gear at least briefly.
