FMR Oct 2nd, 6:30 from Aero

Post by Briana »

52 deg and sunny, we aren't going to get many more early mornings like that.

Here's the route, it's been the preferred route the past couple weeks with a couple very minor tweaks.

Please remember although the COVID-19 restrictions for Massachusetts and the MRC group rides have eased a bit (no longer for MRC members only, for example), you must still NOT join the ride if:

a) You have these symptoms: Cough OR at least TWO of these symptoms: Shortness of breath, Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell, Vomiting, Diarrhea
b) You've had contact with a person with Covid-19
c) You've traveled on a plane in the last 2 weeks

Is it ok if I was in Maine last week? Even if I stopped at the dysart's truck stop and got lots of funny looks for wearing a mask?

As long as you were wearing a mask you should be good I think.

I just looked at this route. Its blasphemous that you're blatantly skipping Sawyer Hill. But then I was equally disturbed that you also skipped Coburn and Barnes?!?!?! Is this part of the woosification of America? Did you received BOD approval to remove these sections from the vaunted and heralded FMR route. Doug OGD Kennedy is rolling over in his grave.

I was skeptical, but it still had 2000 ft of climbing in 25 miles. Pretty solid. I noticed less specific defined climbs like the traditional Sawyer-Coburn-Barnes-Ball Hill route.

This is the road equivalent of the “dumbing down of trails” that the mountain bike community is constantly fighting 😂😂😂

random thoughts . . .

* There has been nothing easy with the FMR or WNR lately without using the 'traditional' route in either. Remember, it never gets easier, you just go faster :) Come see for yourself.
* Traditions are made to be broken
* You're welcome to come lead the ride and use the route of your choosing anytime you like
* Does it really matter when you're not doing the ride 🤔

Funny, and a little bizarrely, but according to my calculations this morning's route and the 'traditional' FMR have the EXACT SAME RATE OF ELEVATION per KM.

*clarification: I compared today's route to the 'Aero FMR - Long'

Not including a specific hill on a group ride is blasphemy and soft, but e-bikes are no problem? 🤔
I seem to recall some of you (a'hem, Pare; Cratty?) were fine with if/when people show-up to group rides on e-bikes. Strange.

Can't we all just get along?!?
Kudos to Kevin for continuing to arrange these. Today was great. Variety is the spice of life. If Cratty and Pare get their butts up for a 6:30 AM start, I am sure we are happy to go do the old route. I have honestly been jonesing to get my PR on Coburn. It isn't that great so I hope you guys come (not next week, I can't make it).
