Boston Road Club Cyclocross Race at Shedd Park, 11/21/2009

Post by taudep »

I think it was Stephan who started the trend of race reports in Haiku, I'll try that today....

I start at the back,
ride through one third of the pack.
Home by twelve 'o clock.

Too tight twisty turns.
Congested traffic at tree,
Watch leaders go free.

Another warm day.
Why is Scott riding with me?
Oh, there he goes, bye.

This was my second year doing Lowell and it was more fun than last year for me. Not much mud, but the same upper section with all sorts of off-road fun. Hated the long power sections below. The jury is still out on whether I'll like races that have loops around the track, maybe if I put a 500 cc motor on my bike? And, per usual, fun to race so close to home.

Didn't really get to see too many other MRC'rs since I took off after my race.
I'm 20PoundSkull at cyclowhat.com.

The haiku is great, but I prefer limericks.

Warmed up on the trainer with Scott,
Realized leg warmers were too hot,
Lined up in the back row,
Where the mountain bikes go,
Tenth place is what I got.
To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.

It should be noted that I lined up near the front and PJ still managed to pass me like I was standing still on the first lap. Very impressive.

As for me, I just didn't have it that day. The up and down hill sections were a kick in the teeth every time and I couldn't make it up on the power sections. I think I'm in the same boat as a friend of mine who claimed that he's "sitting on a pile of rapidly dwindling form."

The goal is to improve (or hang on) 1.5 more weeks until NBX...

Happy Thanksgiving all - have fun at Sterling

I agree that it was a fun race with the run uphills / ride downhills combined with the power woods and cinder track sections. Strange, that I could feel the best all year and only manage 60th place. 100 starters in the Cat 4's were just too much for that course with the tree turn and corkscrew. I must have been 75th or so coming out of the corkscrew before the first hill runup.

Good job guys. I was up half the night with a nasty cough and made the decision to skip the race around 3:00 a.m. All day Saturday I was plagued by thoughts that I should've gone out to Lowell.

I'm in for both days this weekend.
Merry Christmas to you......IN JAIL!!!!

One of those Tokyo drift turns I busted out during Friday's power lunch strained some muscles in my back, rendering me useless for the rest of the weekend. Lowell being the third race in a row missed, I think my season is over.
Still going to stick with it enough to goof around at Ice Weasels.

No fun about the back and the cough (I had the latter too back around Canton) making dents in our season. I plan to be at Sterling at least on Sat. - still thinking about Sun. I was thinking of doing the Masters 45+ open, but will probably stick with the Cat 4 35+ to avoid the being lapped threat. I wish the Cat 4 was 40 mins. though.
