MAJOR TAYLOR ASSOCIATION
Update -- January 2010

We've set the date for the George Street Bike Challenge, and we're seeing people across the country find new ways to keep alive the legacy of 1899 world cycling champion Major Taylor, the first African-American athlete to become an international sports superstar. Here are a few of the things going on.

GEORGE STREET BIKE CHALLENGE
Save the date: July 25
See how fast you can pedal up George Street, a two-block quad-buster that was a training ground for 1899 world champion Major Taylor. It's one rider at a time against the clock in this steep uphill time trial in downtown Worcester, Mass., on the last Sunday in July. Online registration is now open for the ninth annual George Street Bike Challenge for Major Taylor.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Where can I get Major Taylor's autobiography?
Ayer Company Publishers in New Hampshire sells "The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World" by Marshall W. "Major" Taylor for $43.95 plus shipping. It's a reproduction, true to the 1929 original, with photos and all. Also, your public library may have the book or may be able to get it on interlibrary loan from the Worcester Public Library or another collection. Various booksellers offer original copies for sale from time to time, online or in shops; prices vary, depending on condition.
