Aquabike races

Okay so I am told by the USAT that I have to get two Aquabike events in before the end of the year to get my official ranking. Well decided to do back to back races this past weekend in New Jersey. The first race was in Port Republic just north of Atlantic City. Nice event for the first year with over 350 Tri and Aquabike participants for a 1/2 event. I had a good swim for the 1.2 finishing in 29:00 and coming out of the water in first. The bike course was relatively flat and I felt very strong. Finished averaging 22.8mph and it was 57.5 miles instead of the normal 56. Interesting a 38 year old Aquabike pasted me with 10 miles to go I knew that I had to stay within 3 minutes of him given he started ahead of me in the swim. When we got to the finish he said it looked like he won the Aquabike, I said I don't think so. He said yes that I was 35, I said no I am 55. His jaw dropped. Funny. I ended up winning the event. They had 40 Aquabike folks and the Director said they are applying for the Aquabike Regional Championships for 2012 since the USAT will have a National Championship in 2012. Finished the event in 3:02 which for me would be sub 3 hours for a normal 1/2 Aquabike. That improved my time by over 6 minutes from last year.
The next day was a Sprint Aquabike; .35 mile swim and a 12.5 mile bike. Strong swim averaging 1:15 for 100yds. Bike was even stronger, but quads were burning all the way. Ended up averaging 24.2mph for the bike, very fast flat course with no wind. Ended up winning the event. Not bad for a back to back weekend. This was the Ocean City Tri and they had a combination of Tri, Aquabike, Duathlon and relays at this event. Again a nice event and well run given they had to move the event from Ocean City to a State Park due to 9/11 events in Ocean City. They also did a nice job remembering the day we raced on.
So we will see what kind of scores I get from the USAT for these two Aquabikes. Not to sure how they are scoring, but based on the current rankings and the folks I competed against in the past, the scores should be good. We will see.
