WNR Race Sim 5/12
Posted: Fri May 07, 2021 10:10 am
Next Wednesday we will be doing a race simulation for the WNR. We need 12+ people to really make this work, so please plan on coming and post up, especially if you plan on racing this year!
Where: Assabet River Bicycles-90 Cherry St, Hudson, MA 01749
When: Wednesday 5/12 @5:30pm
The plan/schedule:
Ride from Assabet to the course and regrouping in the Berlin Police Department parking lot.
Route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2825744993952536454
Here, we will decided teams and give the teams a couple of minutes to discuss their team tactics and tie a piece of ribbon/tape to their helmet to indicate the team they are on.
Do not wander off, you may end up without a team if you do.
Then, we race 5.5 laps of the race course ~22-23 miles starting from the police department, the race will start as soon as we are on South St.
Here is a Strava Segment for 1 lap of the race: https://www.strava.com/segments/25080498
I will post a picture of the finish line here and on Slack before the start of the race and you will have 5 laps of racing to spot it, it will be roughly the same as last year at the high point of the course where the strava segment starts/ends.
After the race sim, we will (quickly) regroup at the police department, and ride back to ARB as a group.
Rules:
The number 1 rule: BE SAFE, BE SAFE, BE SAFE! this is a race sim, so please use you're noodle and be safe.
- Yellow line rule is in effect. (No crossing over the yellow line to pass) and for this reason, please do not ride the width of the road at the front of a group. You can set a slow pace, but do not "Block" the entire road.
- Always yield to traffic/No passing cars/Do as Cratty says, not as Cratty does.
- Slow down and check for cars at the intersections of Crosby/Lyman and Lyman/Linden. All three streets are fairly quiet, but if there are cars coming, yield to the cars.
- If you have to ask if something is allowed (like the yellow line rule) the answer is probably "don't do it" but feel free to ask anyways.
Prizes:
Glory, Bragging rights and the ability to trash talk your fellow club members.
Other Notes:
Teams will be marked by either a piece of tape or ribbon attached to the helmet. See the picture on Brian Andersons activity from last year: https://www.strava.com/activities/3835638345
Hopefully we have enough people to show up to have 4 teams of 3-5 riders each.
If anyone gets dropped from the main group, they are welcome to take the shortcut on Jones Road and re-enter the race, continuing to help your team, but not winning yourself.
Did I miss anything?
Again, please post up if you plan on going.
