Nice result and great Youtube. I plan to be at Charge Pond for the B race this Sat. There is a thread on the Road Race Team board for people racing this week.

Michael,

Nice job and congrats on your first race. Sounds like you had fun and gained some confidence.

One thing you will find, many times your HR readings will be a lot higher in races than when training by yourself, especially in something like a 1 hr max effort. You're a lot more excited and a lot more motivated in races. But now you can use the race data to instruct your training. Also, knowing ave HR for the race is less useful than finding out how much time you spent above, at and below threshold and how many times you went above threshold.

Its not impossible -- you;re on the right track!

Instead of going out and riding 1 hour as hard as you can (at 161bpm), you might think about doing 3x20 mins at 93% of max (or just below whatever your LT is) -- or 23-24mph by yourself -- that's how to get faster. Once you've adapted to that (6 weeks) you can do shorter intervals at 25 to 30 mph.
