This is probably the lowest key club around -- easy getting into any rides and lots of help is available here. I'm in Waltham and would be happy to ride with you and get you hooked up with some local group rides.

Re: new guy saying hello
We definitely CAN be intense but most of us are a little too laid back for our own good.
We have many club members who rarely if ever compete in races. We get many members who are new to racing and are looking for teammates to show them the ropes. Sometimes these racers have enough success to move through the categories and on to sponsored race teams.
You don't need to race but if you want to we can help. If you just want people to ride with that's ok too.
I'm further west but there are several guys in the Waltham, Newton area that you could try to hook up with.
Lots of guys ride closer to work than to home. Let us know if there's a different locale that you could ride from after work.

Also, being a member of MRC doesn't preclude you from participating in other organized rides. There is a good group that puts together organized rides, many of which are in the Newton area: Charles River Wheelmen. You can google them and check out the calendar of rides. They have many rides that go off in waves depending on expected average speed. FYI the Tues night fitness ride is really hard and fast. But the Thurs night ride from Hanscomb is the type that goes off in waves.
Hope you join the club,
