Either way I'm in, but I hope I feel better tomorrow than I do today.

Can't attend due to horribly boring reasons. Maybe next week.

In as a "B" rider with "A"spirations

In, how do you guys feel about adding one more punchy climb (Windemere Rd off Flag Hill)? We go right by it.
I was actually hoping someone in the know could compare this climb to the KOM climb in the Auburn ME road race this weekend. From the descriptions they sound similar. For those of you with an eye towards Fitchburg, this one reminds me of the Princeton wall.

John Raguin and I have frequently done hill repeats up Windemere. As I remember, it's a fairly steady 7% grade all the way up, the road curves slightly to the left at the top. Road surface is so-so, being careful on the way back down is suggested.

Auburn ME KOM is not as steep as Windemere. Now, it may have seemed less steep to me because you come down a hill with a lot of speed and then go into the KOM so you feel fresh and are carrying a lot of momentum. But I looked at Strava and it confirmed that belief:
Lake Auburn Wall: http://app.strava.com/segments/661671
135 ft of elevation in 0.43 mile. It goes up about 94 ft in the last 0.19 mile.
Windemere Rd: http://app.strava.com/segments/646532
146 ft of elevation in 0.39 mile, so steeper. But the key stat is that it goes up 120 ft in the last 0.19 mile which is much steeper.
Thinking back to the race, you are coming to the bottom of the KOM hill going probably 30-35 mph, while Windemere you would maybe be going 20 mph. So that has a big effect on the momentum into the hill as well.
Don't take my KOM! Just kidding. Go for it.

Just noticed the KOM, John you need to come out and defend. Thanks for the analysis info, very good info.

To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.

I won't be in because of a meeting, but I hear Brett R and Richard Batten will be there. I predict a heck of a throwdown. Sorry to miss it.

Throwdown indeed. Chris is now KOM of Oak Hill and Richard was a total beast. Fun times.

It was like Chris had a big club and we were a bunch of baby seals...PJ McQuade wrote:Throwdown indeed. Chris is now KOM of Oak Hill and Richard was a total beast. Fun times.

Chris can have all his "climbing" KOMs, but he was no where to be found at the end, I'm wearing the green jersey until he comes and takes it.

Was that the sound of a gauntlet hitting the ground?
Re: WNR (Wed Night Ride) -- Tomorrow 5:45pm @ Stow Plaza
Nice work guys sounds like it was a solid ride from all accounts. Wish I had been there.
As you strava-ites would know, Matt Mitchell got the dreaded de-throning message for the Oak Hill KOM (I know this since he sent me PM inquiring if I "...had been a part of this? ". Again, wish I had been).
Matt also said "...pacelining is not allowed on KOMs." Hmmmm...
I'm not going to register any opinion on that other than to say for me, personally, I'll take the KOMs any way I can get 'em! Maybe see if I can get Matt to join us on a Wed. Stow loop one of these days. -JD
