George Street Bike Challenge for Major Taylor
Sunday, July 22, 2012
Worcester, Mass.
See how fast you can pedal up George Street, a two-block quadbuster that was a training ground for 1899 world cycling champion Major Taylor.
It's one rider at a time against the clock in this uphill time trial presented by Barney's Bicycle and the Seven Hills Wheelmen.
The distance is 500 feet and the average grade is 18 percent (but it's closer to 24 percent at one point).
Entry fee is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Proceeds benefit the Major Taylor Association.
All the details on the race, the raffle, the registration -- and a short video:

Re: George Street Bike Challenge - July 22
I've been unable to make it the last couple of years. (And would have been unable to make it up the hill if I had shown up.) But I expect to make it back this year and hopefully make it back on the podium.
All you guys who think you can burn up a power meter should come on out and give George Street a try.

Now this is the kinda race I am in shape for. I was looking to do this year, unfortunately I will most likely be out of town for work.

I went up George Street for the first time on Saturday, right after I took the photo below and right before I went to climb Wawa.
