falmouth area routes?

Post by carlshimer »

I am going to be on the cape this weekend in the Falmouth area. I'd appreciate any recommendations on roads to ride / avoid. Thanks!

There's a road that looks like it cuts through Otis as a public road -- nope. You need a military ID. Not that I learned the hard way last summer or anything.....

There are decent roads east of Falmouth (and otis) that run north up to 6A. There are decent (but flattish) loops that you can put together off 6A. Setucket Rd is decent IIRC. I only remember that one because of the name.....

If you stay south you're confined to rt 28 hell.

I've ridden some roads west of Rt 28 (the portion that runs N-S) that seemed decent and sort of rolling - between Rt 28 and Buzz Bay - up thru W. Falmouth, N. Falmouth and into Pocasset and Bourne. I think I did Sippewisett Rd, Palmer Ave, W Falmouth Hwy (Rt 28A), Quaker Rd (by Old Silver Beach), Chester St. Another time I rode (with family) on Shore Rd, went out on Wings Neck (Middle Road), then further north on Shore Rd up to the Canal bike paths. Shore Rd was a but busy in parts, but everything else seemed pleasant from what I recall. There are some good clam shacks along Shore Rd in Bourne.

Carl - if you have a mountain bike, riding the "Otis" area a few minutes north of Falmouth is a lot of fun. You can drive to the trailhead or bike there on the paved bike path.
