Track Racing

Post by taeves »

Does anyone plan on regularly going up to the track in NH to do some racing this year? I plan on giving it a try and didn't know if i might see some familiar faces up there?

Are you going up with Dan Butler? I was considering giving it a whirl.

You should try it for sure.

I guess the way that it works is that the first couple weeks of the season they have some training/intro nights and i will be riding up there with him. After that, they have four fields a, b, c, and d. the a's and b's race tuesday night, and the c's and d's on wednesday (or so that is the rumor this year) they haven't posted anything yet.

Once the season starts I plan on attending regularly if all goes well. I think this is more suited for me than a long road race.

I am sure we can get some carpooling going, as long as we are on the same nights.

i think it gets going in may.

Dick ring may coach, i know he announces.

They rent bikes there for 2 bucks.

I'll make sure i post up all the new info as it comes available.

it would be nice to add this aspect to our club. We are well represented in all the other areas.

Bauer and myself ventured up one night last year. Some thoughts...

- Get there very early to secure the best rental bikes and get used to the fixie on the track
- Take your own shoes and pedals (speedplays worked fine)
- Dick Ring was riding around before the races, gave lots of tips and direction, find him and tell him your a newbie
- Make sure you check what type of racing is on for the night you plan to attend (some nights provide more track time)
- You'll have to weigh travel, effort, cost vs. amount of racing (it was not worth it IMHO even though I enjoyed it)
- Rumor is that they are rigging lights this year which would dramatically help the amount of track time
- Never stop pedaling
- Never reverse your course on the track
- You get style points if you race with a messenger bag
- Dweebs on beaters will beat you
- Don't expect to walk normally the following day

wish i knew about the vol. weekend sooner...i would have been there. If you see Tony, could you ask him if they still need an electrician...i heard at one point a month or so ago they were looking for one. if he still is he can e-mail me at taeves@hotmail.com.

I will be up there at least two to three times a month this year, so it will be great to ride with you.
