Good Morning All,
I just called the Gear Works shop in Leominster and was told that the Tuesday Night Rides will start April 9th at 6pm. http://www.gearworkscyclery.com/
Below was my summary from a previous post....
A short summary on the Gear Works Tuesday Night Rides.
There are three groups that leave GW at 6pm. A, B+, and B. Apparently someone took offence to calling it a C group.
The B and B+ rides are no drop, well the B is for sure no drop. On a rare occasion the B+ ride will come back asking where "X" rider went off too.
The A ride is an every man for themselves. If you get drop I hope you know the area or have a GPS to get your butt home because it's a rare occasion they wait up for people. They will wait if you have a flat or mechanical. But have a second flat... BUHBYE!
The route for any of the three is never posted anywhere and announced in the lot. Don't be surprised that if you are close to the shop on the return to see an extra few miles of a hill thrown in because there's extra daylight. It's show, hear where the group is going, and jump on.
All three typically go in different directions, so there isn't an option of getting picked up by the next group coming through.
The B+ and the A are typically similar in length of the ride and close in effort. The biggest difference in the A ride is, it's GO from the moment they leave the parking lot and the hills are crushed by the Cat 1's and 2's. The B+ ride will at least get a 10min warm-up in before they go HAHHHD. But when the pace line gets going it's a nice ride!
Every week I toe the line and leave with the A group saying a little prayer that I make it back with the group. I've found that secret to be if you can survive the first 15-20min you are good for the rest of the ride. Plenty of times I've been in the middle of Mason NH watching them just go away no matter what I do on the hills. Another secret is the obvious one... The moment you find yourself on the nose of the pace line GET OFF THE HELL OFF!
Group sizes. A ride is typically about 6 riders (yeah, lots of fun). B+ and B rides can sometimes be 20+ strong.
OK that's my two cents on the GW rides. It'd be great to see some MRC'rs out there some times.

I'm interested in this.
To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.

Have the rides started this year yet? I'm thinking about going tomorrow. Are lights required?
