WNR - 4/17 Stow Plaza 5:30

Post by rusto »

[ridewithgps]http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1187908[/ridewithgps]

-- Doing the "traditional" WNR route above.

Notes:
  • • If the numbers permit, there will be A and B groups. B's typically AVERAGE 17-19 mph for this loop. Don't worry if you think you are slower than that, we want you on this ride!
It is a no-drop ride. No one will be left behind.
    • I will be B leader. Although I will be attacking on Liberty Square Road (right after the 111 crossing), I will wait for any B's behind me at the top and do the same for all of the following climbs.
    • If you feel like you are about to get dropped, say something to the person in front of you BEFORE you go out of earshot - Either, "See you at the top!" or "I'm cooked, save me!" or the like.
    • Stay aware of who is behind you and if you are 2nd to last, be especially aware of the last rider. Look out for each other.
    • On Taylor Road, the B's will organize their own pace line and work it all the way down to the Boxboro Road/West Acton Road intersection.

    • "A" group members will start attacking as soon as they cross Rte 111 from Summer Road to Liberty Square Road and continue all the way up Oak Hill Road to Pinnacle Road.
    • "A" group members can then optionally head down and back up Pinnacle, after which...

EVERYONE (A and B) will regroup just past the 4-way intersection of Pinnacle Road and Old Schoolhouse Road.
    • The balance of the ride will be combined A/B no-drop: A's will wait for B's at the end of the Fruitlands and Bare Hill Climbs.
No lurking please, if you think you'll do this ride, post up so we can get a sense of how the A/B groups are sizing up.

In. Love the plan. I'll be doing the Berlin P&R thing so if anyone wants to join from there be ready to roll at 5pm. We'll meet up with the group in the normal spot at the end of boxborough rd.

Very interested. Sorry i m new to some of the terminology: the "Berlin P&R" that's the parking lot right next to the 495 entry/exit on 62?

OK, don't want to be accused of lurking, I'm in for the WNR militant (geez, Russ, do I have to start attacking after Rt111 if I ride with the As or can I just suck wheel?). I'm not sure where I'm going to start from but I'll be lurking somewhere :geek:

I'm in. Ill be attacking right before 111, making a suicide crossing, follow at your own risk. Russ will be attacking out of the parking lot.

I don't know, Jerry. For me, "attacking" is what I need to do this year to just be able to draft Jeremy and Chris.

Maybe bring a grappling hook and 6 ft of rope, just in case.

Rolling out of Shrewsbury at 5:15 Does the loop go from east to west then south on the 110 section?
If so I'll plan to ride the opposite direction, overlap and jump on
Thanks

Russ,

Is the B ride just a JV version of the A ride? Or is it a spring endurance pace ride for people who didn't train this winter? Probably the former if you're talking about attacking the B-ride.

One suggestion, rather than making the varsity wait after Oak Hill, is to have B's skip Prospect Hill (for a few weeks anyway).

Thanks,

Bruce

For the Berlin-ites, here's the route we'll take over to meet up with the Stow-ers. Just a reminder that we need to clip in at 5:00 sharp in order to meet up. If you're in danger of not making it you can proceed to the Stow Plaza and make their 5:30 rollout. Just post up if that's the case. Thanks!

Actually, the A's are encouraged to do the down/up Pinnacle "extra credit".

B pacing will be whatever each rider can or wants to do - the WNR is traditionally an attack (on the hills) and regroup ride rather than endurance pace. It is a no-drop ride, there is no expectation that we will be climbing together, just regrouping at the tops and continuing as a group to the next climbing section.

For myself, I'd like to get the maximum effort out of the ride while still serving as B leader. I may even do my own "extra credit" on Oak Hill and ride back down to meet the last rider and pace them the rest of the way up.

If you (or any other B) would like to shortcut past Prospect (Fruitlands) and meet the group at the Prospect Hill/Still River rendezvous point, that is fine - just make sure somebody who is going through to Fruitlands knows.

Naturally, the abilities of the B's will vary over a wider range than the A's. I think doing it in a way that lets the maximum number of people get the workout they want/need is the way to go.
