NERCX

Post by NCgaron »

Okay so I thought that last weekend was a good but after this weekend I don't even know. So this is by far the coldest I have ever raced a with a sustained 20 mph wind It felt like 10 degrees. Dressing for this was challenging I had 3 long sleeve base layers on underneath my skin suit plus arm warmers. The embro really helps when it is this cold I was very thankful to have some. I do need to find some way to keep my feet from going numb which they did in about ten minutes.. I was staged in 44th which to me seemed about right in a cat 3 race with 81 pre-registered racers. In the first lap I was sitting in about 30th going into the first fast technical section and surprising enough a KMS kid crashed and held up about half of the field I managed to squeak by in the outside of the corner and after a few more I was up to about 25 coming out of the barriers the first lap I dropped my chain and lost about 10 spots trying to get it back on. That really sucked. After that I was all out trying to make up all of the spots that I had lost I made it to a big group and was sitting in about 20th I stayed with them for about a lap and I attacked them going into a log on an uphill that most people chose to dismount and run but I knew from pre-ride that it was faster to ride it so I did and that gave me a good gap on that group. I was in about 17 when I heard my dad yell that Jonah Meadvacourt and a Chris Goguen had crashed an they were only 20 seconds up on me so that last lap and a half I was bridging the gap to them slowly and with about 1/3 of a lap to go I attacked there group of 4 and held them off at the line for 12th place. I eel like I am coming on to some good form with two weekends left and dah weasles. I actually really liked this course... does that make me crazy?
