Sunday Ride: To Women's Olympic Marathon Trials

Post by teamkimball »

Is anybody interested in riding out to watch the Women's Olympic Marathon Trials on Sunday? It looks like it is approx 26 miles or so. If we plan on meeting in Stow Plaza at 6:15 AM we should have plenty of time to get in. The trials start at 8:00 am and should be over by 10:25 or so unless Deena beats her PR and that would put the finish at 10:19am.

I would expect that we can be back on the road around 10:30 or so and be back to Stow around noon.

I just heard that Joanie is going to run the trials. I think she's 50 now. I'd love to see her get a slot.

Check out the site. That would be a feel good story, but she has little chance of qualifying. Her qualifying time for the trials was 2:46. Still fast, but too many sub-2:40's in the field...

I am with Coley - would love to see Joanie get a spot- though I also agree the chances are not great- but anything can happen on race day........

Mark, I don't think it will be as good as watching her get out of her wetsuit at Timberman last year.

This is my communte to work (Cambridge at Kendall Square). The roads are patched and poor inside 128 no matter what route you take.

The most direct is 117, left on Lexington Road through Lincoln, then right on Trapelo. Cross 128, left on Spring and right on Concord. Follow Concord over Belmont Hill to Fresh Pond Circle and stay on Concord Road straight through to Harvard Square. Then Mass Ave to Memorial.

You can stay straight on Trapelo 'til it turns into Belmont Road (past the Wheelworks) and merge left onto My Auburn but I think it is just as bumpy and it is definitely longer to Mass Ave at Memorial Drive. If I'm up in time, I'll be there or else I'll head the group off at 117 and Powder Mill.

Guys- recap of today:
1) Perfect weather
2) Great ride- love to do new roads
3) Great to see a world class event in Boston like this. Super race.
4) Joanie was great- a real class act and fan favorite. You can see her coming a mile away- elbows out, colorful hat, knees a'knocking against each other, leaning to one side, etc... Her form is terrible as far as that goes- but she can turn them over. Ran a 2:49 today at age 50- amazing. A privilige to watch her race...

See you on the roads next week....
