Raced the Friday afternoon single speed with Scott C.
Looonnng laps. Fun course. Generally backwards from the way they've run it in the past. Almost all up/down/off camber. Lots of grass, tons of traction. Probably won't be the same tomorrow if it rains.
The course crosses more curbs than usual, and all at an angle. They have boards so you can just hit most of them without hopping.
Again I wonder how they'll be when wet.
2 of the 3 flyovers weren't ready for tonight. Should be interesting for the weekend. One is about 20' after stairs. The other is steep enough that they put cleats on it.
They tried using some white fake grass crap that I think is worse than useless.
The jump is a fun little table top. Also covered in that white grass crap.
Going into the off camber down/up on the first lap the guy ahead of me pedal struck and wiped out. I thought I could get around him but all of a sudden his front wheel popped up
in front of me and took me down. Then Scott gave me a little love tap from behind.
I banged my right brake lever back into position and started picking off the spots I'd lost.
I caught Derek Griggs on his Spot belt drive and then fought to hold him off. We must have been geared identically. I put enough time into him on the hill to stay safely away.
Finished 20th out of 58 which I think beat the predictor.

Re: Providence
Yes the course is epic. I did nationals there in 2005 (I think) in a blizzard and 8" of snow, but this course is harder. It is more condensed, more elevation change, and uses much less road, cruising sections. It's all up and down and just about all in grass, so you need lots of fitness.
The Madison was a blast. It's fun racing with not only ranked riders, but people of all ages, gender and category. I went old skool and did my first race in October, so this was about cleaning the course, which I did, and getting the rust out. We finished 45th put of 67 teams (but second for those whose ages add to 110+. We choose to switch every half lap, so we probablyosr time (because of the transition).

Re: Providence
Wow so a half lap is like 4 minutes maybe? Sounds like a crazy interval workout. And I'm sure you're average speed is way higher than usual which stresses your driving skills even more. Sounds like a hoot.
