August Adventure ride August 7th

Post by jraguin »

This is about a road/dirt road ride from NEBRA. It is a fundraiser for NEBRA itself. The president of NEBRA sent it to me.
I wasn't sure where to post this. Not exactly a road ride, but not an MTB either. I guess it is a bit like the JAM Fund Grand Fundo. Sounds fun though! (I can't make it however).

"I’d like to invite you to join us on August 7th for the New England Bicycle Racing Association (NEBRA) August Adventure. With two ride options starting and ending in South Deerfield, MA, both routes boast fantastic climbing, dirt roads and quiet paths in scenic Western Mass. Upon return riders will enjoy a pizza party catered by Hillside Organic Pizza and Harpoon Brewing.

While this isn’t your typical fundraising ride, all proceeds from the event will go to support an important cause. NEBRA facilitates bike racing in New England. With our administrator and a board of directors comprised of volunteers, NEBRA coordinates the race calendar working with clubs and promoters for road and cyclocross, trains and assigns officials, and manages rider upgrades and downgrades. They also give grants to races and riders who have exciting ideas to progress the sport in New England!

With your support and participation in this ride, NEBRA can add new programs and improve bicycle racing in New England. Come ride your bike to support bike racing! Hope to see you there.

I'm thinking 'in' but need to confirm. Anyone else?

As a club we participate in almost every sanctioned race in NEBRA's sphere. There is no excused, we need to put on a good showing.

i bet the route will be harder than jAM Fundo but more low key and definitely more remote.

MRC needs to pony up if we care about the future of road racing in New England.

In. Chris, I might change out my pedals though. I hear there is a mile-long sand section. Unless you want to track stand me every time I fall!?

I'm in. Not sure if the 45 or 75 miler yet. Thoughts on route selection?

I reg'd for the 75 miler - a.k.a. the 'Reasonable Adventure'

Sharon I'm not sure I can make this one to help your remounts. I'd suggest avoiding crashing or dabbing in the sand.

There's also a race in CT that day. Supports NE racing. I'm doing that.
To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.

Or, for the best of both worlds and all around good will, do the new race in CT and just make an additional donation (via bikereg link for the August Adventure) to NEBRA

I wonder if 28mm tires will fit. I just like my road bike better than my CX bike.

Chris! Just seeing your post. Damn! Well, I might try my CX for this ride as a dry run for D2R2. Still mulling it over. Problem is, the road bike is lighter and better fit for the distance and elevation. Oh, the challenges of being able to do this kind of stuff - which bike to ride!? Whoa is me. Scott &/ Russ, I'm nominating you to take over Chris's remount assistant role! :-) Will miss you, Chris!
