Stage 2 is tonight at 6:30pm. I don't plan on doing the hammer fest at the front, but I will be riding it.
I'll post up here if I decide to join on Sunday as well.

a little later start than I would like but I think I am in. I assume leave my MRC tag on lagged onto the event designated info?

Yeah, you should leave "(MRC)" after your name (I don't think your asked to add anything to your name for the event). But we also try to make it easier to pick each other out of the group by, for example, all having the silver mohawk hair style.

The event will put us all in the same CASTELLI jerseys. Running zwiftgps.com on a separate screen helps to figure out where everyone is. Also use discord voice. I expect it will hit the 2 min kom hard right at the start, then settle in until the epic kom. It's worth warming up before the event to be ready for the start.

For anyone that can't make the 10 AM ed. - like me -, it's on again at 12:30. Anyone think they'd be up for it?

Forgive me for scabbing 😉

Yeah, I usually have ZwiftGPS on a Surface tablet so I can see just how bad I've been dropped by the lead group. :)

Yeah it did! I don't know what is going-on with my heart rate lately. I averaged Z5 (169 bpm) for the whole ride (race, really), and hit my highest HR ever — 186. Recently I thought it may have been because I was sick, but that's past now and my heart rate is still unusually high it seems. Is it just cause my fitness sucks? Or is it positive?

Update: I just noticed this in my email:

Thresholds 411
August 2, 2008 By TrainingPeaks

Lactate Threshold Pace, Heart Rate, and Power all refer to the maximum effort you’re able to maintain while your body can still remove the lactate acid being used by the muscles. For most trained athletes this is similar to the maximum effort they can maintain for an hour. Going above this threshold effort will result in a “burn” in the muscles and, after a few minutes, require stopping or slowing in order for the body to clear the lactate acid. As endurance athletes, we want to go as fast as we can for as long as we can. Therefore staying under or right at the lactate threshold allows us to go hard, but not so hard that we have to stop.
So, there is some positive to this!

The trainer induces higher HR, typically due to core temperature rise.

I've recently started wearing just a sleeveless, Craft super-light baselayer to try to keep cooler (I'd usually wear a cycling jersey). And I've even been leaving the bib straps off my shoulders because I feel it keeps me a little cooler. I should probably keep the fan on full the whole time and open a window. Bottom line: overheating is an issue on the trainer.

My garage is typically 45-50 degrees and I have a 20” metal blade industrial fan. Like you I wear only a lightweight sleeveless base layer. I still see higher HR for same power indoor vs out.

I cannot wear any top when I ride indoors, the times when I’m forced to (traveling and at a gym) I’m just a mess. I got a lasko pro performance fan (I also have a lasko cyclone which is less good which is why I got the pro performance model). I don’t know about others, but I’m not really a fan of having fans on before I’m warmed up, so I’ve gotten wifi outlets and just enable the outlets (with fans already set to on) from my phone, rather than get off the bike.

Interesting discussion in that this (higher trainer HR readings) is exactly the opposite of what I experience. I pretty much always have a lower heart rate on the trainer for a given intensity than outdoors. As intensity increases, the difference becomes less noticeable with a 20min max effort being pretty much no difference. But at say low Z2 type rides, the difference between trainer and outdoors for me can be 10-15bpm (trainer lower), especially when riding outdoors in cold temps. My max HR readings are all outdoors (and not for lack of trying indoors..) Someone with actual medical knowledge can pipe in, but I attribute it to:
1) Less (no) constant resistance to overcome on a trainer.
2) In cold temps, vessels narrow so heart has to pump higher just to keep the body warm.
3) True overheating indoors seems difficult. Sure it feels pretty uncomfortable, but unless the air around you is pretty darn warm (I'm thinking 85-90 or higher), your body shouldn't be overheating. All my trainer workouts are in a 65'sh room. Turn on the fan. Sometimes crack a window. Never had a problem.

Just my observations.

Damn, that Pro Performance looks heavy duty! But what about the noise level? I'm using a Vornado 41-inch tower fan. I'm willing to bet it doesn't move as much air as the Pro Performance, but it does have a remote which is nice. I usually start at medium speed until I get warmed up then move it to full, but like I said previously maybe I should just keep it full the whole time.

I don't know about you but I'm pedaling 100% of the time on a trainer. (Near) Zero coasting. You can't say that about outdoors.

I take ever brake I can when it's a ride or race those few seconds of coasting help mentally....

In my specific model (this one http://www.laskoproducts.com/pro-perfor ... el-u15600/) it's actually not very loud, definitely quieter than the lasko cyclone I have (http://www.laskoproducts.com/20-cyclone ... odel-3520/). I just did a really unscientific test with a noise meter on my phone. The pro performance was around 65-70db while the cyclone was at 80-85db. With my setup, I can pretty safely say that my core, arms, legs stay pretty dry, I still sweat profusely on the head though lol

I don’t think I’ve ever had a drop of sweat hit the floor at my combo of ambient temp and fan CFM. I’d be downright miserable if I were sweating that profusely.
