CRW Climb to the Clouds, Sunday 7/18

Post by rusto »

I'm doing the century, hoping to keep a snappy pace (last year, I averaged just under 19 mph and finished in 5' 31").

Bruce, you mentioned interest. Anyone else?

Don't know if anyone saw this, but the ride is pre-registration only this year and registration closes Friday at noon. http://crw.org/CTTC/climb2clouds.php

I have registered for the metric.

I'm registered for the century and will be looking to avg ~19-20mph. Small chance I may have to bail though.

Red, I'm hoping to get an early start and leave Concord as soon as registration/check-in opens and I process through.

Rusto, Todd, etc.
Won't be riding this year - leaving for Oregon this weekend. I have a bike rented for a few rides along the Oregon coast - I hope - in between boogie boarding and perhaps some surfing attempts. Hope the weather is good for you. Is the Mt. Wachusett summit road part of the CtoC route this year or is it still closed?

Doran,
Cycling the Oregon coast is very fun. However getting into the ocean is a chilly time to say the least...

Perhaps though, you are a Oregon expat like myself and don't mind the fridgid water.
Hope you have a sweet wet suit ;-)

Hey Russ, sorry for the delay.

Sadly, no, I will not be there Sunday. My buddy and I are going to do the route Saturday instead. A conflict came up in Sunday.

If anyone wants to join us, we'll be departing CCHS at 7am on Saturday.

Jim, I may meet you along the route for 60 or 70 miles. Any thoughts on a good location and time to meet up?

In the past we've tried to have the metric MRC group meet the standard MRC group. There is a gas station right near the metric start in Lancaster where we could meet.

We could trade cell#s and coordinate.

Hmm, good question Len. I have not done the route before so not really sure. Take a look at the cue sheet and see if you can pick a spot.

I just registered today and their site is not extremely clear on start times. It says that start times in Bolton are at 8 --9:30am but they don't specifically say when the metric starts. Does anyone know the exact start time for the metric? I'm trying to figure out when I need to arrive in Bolton on Sunday Morning.
I like Todd's idea of trying to meet up if it's not too confusing.

Jeff, if it's anything like the 100 miler, the range of time (8-9:30) is when check-in occurs, you can leave ANYTIME after you check in. I think that at some point, they give a little presentation about route markings, etiquette, safety, etc. but you are not compelled to attend.

MRC'ers doing the metric should just agree on a departure time. Who knows, I may bump into you along the way!

Wait a minute, Todd and Bruce? It sounds like the 45+ team is making its debut at the CttC. I can't miss that. I'll rearrange my weekend ride schedule to join the metric. I just need to be on the early side. Since a few of us aren't registered maybe we can meet a bit earlier and train it up to the mountain.

My memory is that the Bolton ride leaves at about 9:30....about when you'd expect the Concord people to come rolling through. See the following comment from the site:

"Right after registration closes, there will be a short informational talk which will give details on food stops, and other features of the ride you should be familiar with. The talk for the century riders will be at 8:00AM, and for the other rides at 9:30AM."

So what;s the deal? Sounds like lots of different agendas.

If the metrics want to meet up with the 105 milers, the routes converge at the intersection of Rt 110 and Bolton Rd. This is mile 24 for the century guys -- so about 1:15 into their ride.

I believe the mass start from Concord is at 8Am and from Bolton is at 9:30.

Russ and Tony are doing the 105mi and plan to leave concord an hour before the Mass start-- at 7AM -- which means they'd be at Bolton Rd and Rt 110 about 8:15 or so.

Sounds like its Todd, Jeff, Len, Dave P and myself leaving from Bolton. What time do you guys want to leave Bolton? The mass start is at 9:30. Russ and Tony will come through at about 8:15ish. The mass of Concord riders will come through at 9:15 to 9:30.

My preference is to leave with the official (mass) start. Why else would you do a century? Its all about the social aspects and the energy of the crowd. I plan to ride at a good pace.....but smell the roses too.

Bruce et al, my preference is early. I need to get home by noon. I'd rather ride ahead of the mass group as well and be social with y'all.
I can be ready for the 105 MRC'rs around 8:15.

I'm not sure that this ride may kill me. I did 25 today and was really dragging.

But, I plan to be at Bolton by 7ish with plans to pick up my reg. as early as possible and hit the road to meet the crew.

I really hope to do this as an MRC group. If I end up solo I can do that from home or go to Wells.
