I just got the new Velonews and a letter from Smudger is the first published in the Communique section on page 12. Something about Scotts vs. Englishmen (or as he sometimes refers to as Sassenach) etc etc... Nice work!

I don't get it. There's a difference between being British & English? ;)

I learned this from a friend of Irish descent, but I suspect Smudger can vouch for its applicability to Scotsmen.

Below are two headlines from a London newspaper. In the first case a Scottish rider wins a bike race, in the other he loses.

British rider wins hard-fought race!

Scottish rider loses race, despite excellent support by British teammates.

I saw the letter and thought something along the lines of "I bet Smudger would agree with that." Apparently, I was right.
