Root 66 Hodge Village Dam

Post by NCgaron »

Last weekend I went down to Oxford, MA to race in the Ma state championship XC race. For people who don't know this is a classic New England course that has been around as long as I can remember. This course has always been a mix of single track and double track ATV trail. I lined up for the cat 2 19-29 with 6 other racers. This year they decided to run the course backwards so I had no clue how the start would play out. The whole shot was a 1/4 mile long fire road that went straight into a rooty single track section. I slotted in second for the first half of the 6 mile lap, we hit a technical downhill section with two lines so I took the hard/faster line to get around him. We have raced each other a few times so he knew my strengths and I knew his so we battled for the next full lap until he made a pass going into the longest climb on course. He burned it on the climb and got a gap and I never saw him again. Ended up 2nd and we averaged almost 12MPH! thats one fast mtb race!
