Saturday 8/11 Connecticut Redux (no gravel)

Post by dantelman »

The weather (at least as of today) looks nice for next Saturday, Sunny and high temp 83...
if enough people are interested for this weekend, we could do it again.....
The route is ~65 miles with 4,000 ft climbing. This one leaves out the gravel sections. Very good pavement, and nice scenery. You will think you're in Vermont at times.

The start is in Thompson CT, right off Rt 395, likely start is 8 or 830 am, and plan on 4 hours ride time.

any takers

Hi Brian,

I was planning to use the KMC New England GF route (medio), the only difference being that I changed the start point, since you can't park at the speedway without paying for parking. The ride starts/ends at Mary Fisher Elementary School. This route is 100% paved.

If you want to try the gravel route that KT and I did, that one starts from Mary Fisher Elementary in Thompson. This has ~16 miles of gravel, a lot of it in the shade, which was nice.

Both routes have multiple places where you can stop for food/drinks. The routes pass through Woodstock and Woodstock fair, and the mid-point of both rides is ~ mile 30 it goes through Eastford (Coriander Cafe) which is where KT and I stopped to refuel.

The area is great for riding, the wider, smoother roads would allow for a double paceline...

Thanks Doug, When ever I'm heading out on the motorcycle if I don't have time to go to VT I head to North Eastern CT. Great roads.

I would still like to do this Saturday morning, anyone else interested? As of now I think weather should be good, cooler and less humid

It looks wet all day Saturday, and most of Sunday with only a small window between 9 AM - 1PM with less than 25% chance of rain. Boo :(

Forecast for this weekend looks dismal- flash flood warning, rain off and on Saturday into Sunday morning.
